The Building & Energy section of the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has recently released Industry Bulletin 118: Fire Stopping for Penetrations. The bulletin is to assist builders, building surveyors, designers, inspectors and other relevant stakeholders with technical guidance and improvement on tested fire stopping systems for penetrations within commercial Class 2 – 9 buildings.
Our building surveyors have noted a trend of insufficient testing documentation being provided at design stage of a build, including tested systems for service penetrations in accordance with AS4072.1 – 2005. Not only is it important to provide testing documentation at design stage, it is equally as important to ensure the system meets the approved testing documentation for the specific use, material and location throughout the building for service penetrations.
